Group Instances & Permissions

ChilloutVR's Group system allows users to create and and join groups comprising of other individuals with similar hobbies and interests. Group owners can assign various roles that allow for elevated permissions in specific instances.

Speaking of, Groups can create additional instance types such as Group Public, Friends of Members, and Members Only. While in a Group instance, staff consisting of the Moderator, Admin, and Owner roles will have the following permissions and features:

Group Public

  • Elevated Video Player control

Friends of Members / Members Only

  • Elevated Video Player control
  • Visible Moderation role
  • Instantly kick users from the instance
  • User block exemption while in the Group instance

Verified Groups

Verified Groups are much the same as normal Groups, but have the added benefit of retaining the additional permissions above in Group Public instances as well. This is mostly intended for public community events and gathering where instance moderation may be necessary in order to maintain group activities, but anyone is free to apply!

However, please keep in mind that the agreement below must be respected and verification can be removed at any time.

Verified Groups Agreement

Similar to the ChilloutVR Moderation Team, Group Moderation is expected to be fair and responsible with the permissions available to them. Failure to abide by the following rules and expectations may result in a revocation of the Verified Group status.

Rules and Expectations

By applying for Verified Group status, you agree to the following:

  • Group Owners are responsible for who is assigned moderation roles.
  • Group Moderators should have a valid and reasonable reason for kicking a user.
  • Moderation must not be enacted on users for prior offences outside of the active instance. Please report any repeat offenders to the ChilloutVR Moderation Team.
  • Rules specific to your event or activity that are not covered by the ChilloutVR Terms of Service are allowed, but must be clearly communicated to users who wish to participate before any potential moderation action is taken.
  • e.g. A list of rules presented to users immediately upon spawning in the world

While not required, it is highly encouraged for group event staff to record and maintain evidence in cases where moderation action is necessary. Abuse of moderation privileges will not be tolerated, and reports of such behavior are taken very seriously. The ability to provide relevant evidence when requested to clear up any misunderstandings or false reports would be greatly appreciated.

Obviously storage isn't free, and media files can be quite large. So after at least 2 weeks have passed, feel free to delete it if you wish.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What if I want to transfer ownership of the Group?

A: Ownership transfer is currently not allowed for Verified Groups. Please email us at [email protected] to rescind your verification status first, then you may freely transfer your group to another user. The new owner may then apply for Verification if they wish.

Q: What kind of rules are appropriate for my event?

A: Event rules are entirely optional. The ToS will always apply above all, so if that is sufficient for your needs then you may refer to it when applying moderation actions.

However, if you wish to enact rules specific to your event, please keep them reasonable and within the purpose of your activities. For example, a racing event may want to prevent non-participants from disrupting the race, or have registration guidelines for participating. These can vary case-by-case, so feel free to email us with any questions if you are unsure of anything.

Q: Can users still initiate a Vote Kick in Group Instances?

A: Yes, however Group Moderators, Admins, and Owners are exempt from Vote Kicks while in an associated Group Instance.

Q: How does the Group Moderator Block Exemption work?

A: If you have a Group Moderator blocked, they will still be able to see you while in the Group Instance. This is necessary to prevent abuse of the self-moderation system to avoid group moderation, much like exemptions applied to the ChilloutVR Moderation Team. However, if a Group Moderator has you blocked, no exemptions will be made.

When joining a Group Instance, a list of Group Moderators and their permissions will be displayed before joining the instance. Any relevant users that are blocked will be shown in red.
